Lindy
An 'AI employee' that lives in your team's Slack (shared @Lindy in channels, a private Lindy in DMs) and runs inbox, calendar, meetings, research and routines across 1,500+ connected tools; sold per seat to teams with a pooled credit balance.
Why it's here: Nikhil named it; best-known no-code AI employee/assistant builder with a credit-based free tier.
How they turn free users into paying ones
Lindy signs users up with Google identity only and keeps onboarding to three skippable asks: text it, connect your inbox and calendar, connect Slack. It immediately personalizes the home page from the email domain alone. Every new workspace gets a 7-day trial with 10,000 credits and no card, and the cost of each reply is shown inline. Premium models are visibly locked to 'Auto' with 'Upgrade to choose a model'. Expansion is built in: a $50-credit, 30%-commission referral card, an 'Invite colleague' button, and (per docs) Slack @mentions that create billed seats after a 7-day seat trial. When credits run out, work pauses rather than billing, with opt-in overages at double price.

Monetization mechanics
| Trial / free offer | 7-day 'Lindy Trial' with 10,000 credits (billing page; the site advertises '$50 in free credits'), no card. On day 8 the workspace moves to a 'Free Monthly' plan rather than locking. |
|---|---|
| Card required | No (per pricing page and docs; not verified in-app) |
| What free actually allows | Trial: 10,000 credits for 7 days. One research + LinkedIn task used 10.7 credits (shown under the reply). Model choice is locked to 'Auto' ('Upgrade to choose a model'). After the trial: a Free Monthly plan. |
| How usage is shown | Cost per reply under each answer ('10.7 · Auto'); Settings → Billing shows plan, period end and a credit bar ('10,000 credits left'); Settings → Usage breaks credits down by agent, task and member. |
| Discounts & annual nudges | No promos, countdowns or annual toggle on the pricing page. Volume pricing only: 3,000 credits $29.99 (1¢/credit) vs 15,000 for $99.99 (0.67¢). Top-up credits never expire while plan credits reset monthly, which nudges teams that top up often toward a bigger plan. |
| Sales assist | 'Book a demo' in the nav, hero and Enterprise card; 'Live onboarding on Pro and up' (human onboarding as a paid-tier perk); support@lindy.ai for Enterprise; docs ask teams that keep hitting limits to 'reach out'. |
| Time to value | ~4 minutes: Google sign-in, 3 onboarding screens (attribution, text-Lindy QR, connect email, all skippable), home; the first research + LinkedIn draft took 37 seconds. |
| Aha moment | Home suggestions tailored to the company inferred from the email domain (weekly research on its real competitors, prospect finding, community monitoring) before connecting anything. The first task returned a sourced Kite competitor brief and LinkedIn draft in 37 s. |
| Account used | Google sign-in with a real company Google Workspace account Nikhil signed into the Composio cloud browser (identity scopes only; name and email masked on screenshots). Earlier throwaway-email attempt was rejected by the work-email check. |
| Geo note | Prices shown in USD from the India IP; no language redirect. |

What Kite could take from it
- Personalize the first screen from the work-email domain alone (Lindy suggested research on the company's real competitors without any setup). Kite can infer company, site and competitors before asking anything.
- Show the credit cost under every reply; it makes the trial balance tangible and builds trust in usage pricing.
- Lock a visible premium lever (model choice) rather than core work, so the trial still delivers value.
- A referral card that pays the referrer (30% of what the friend pays) turns satisfied trial users into a channel.
Caveats: The 10,000-credit trial grant (vs '$50' on the site) was seen on this account's billing page; it may vary by sign-up path. Seat billing via Slack comes from docs (Slack wasn't connected).
